Wendy Williams has been publicly spotted for the first time in over a year.
Williams, 60, was seen with her son, Kevin Hunt Jr. — who shares with ex-husband Kevin Hunter — at the holistic store Bolingo Balance in Newark, N.J., on Monday, Aug. 19. The outing, which was first reported by Page Six, marks the first time the television personality has been spotted since March 2023.
An employee at Bolingo Balance — which is run by the late Dr. Sebi’s son, Victor Bowman — told the outlet that Williams was “sharp, upbeat and aware” and “very bubbly” during the visit. She was “engaging but wasn’t as familiar with what we do here, so her son was more explaining things.”
The employee continued, “She talked about circulation improvement but didn’t want to get into too much detail on their first meeting and plans to come back in the near future.”
Bowman also shared a photo of himself and Williams on his Facebook page on Monday, Aug. 19. “Wendy Williams come to my store 🏬 much love Queen 👸🏾,” he captioned the post.
Photos were also posted on the store’s Instagram account. “Much love to Wendy Williams and her son ❤️,” read the caption. “I remember when I met Kevin in Usha village, my dad told me I want you to meet Wendy’s son.”
Williams’ son replied in the comment section: “🙏🏽📈🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽.”
Williams was last publicly seen and photographed in March 2023, when she was seen returning to her apartment in New York City. Prior to that, she made her last appearance on The Wendy Williams Show in July 2021. Ahead of the show’s June 2022 conclusion and amid Williams’ ongoing health issues, including Graves’ disease, lymphedema and alcohol abuse, multiple celebrities appeared as guest hosts before it was canceled.
In between her March 2023 and August 2024 outings, Williams’ team revealed she was diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia diagnosis. Her sister Wanda Finnie and niece Alex exclusively told PEOPLE in Feburary that she wasn’t made aware of her diagnosis after she was placed in a facility to be treated for cognitive issues. She said she hadn’t received information on Williams’ diagnosis since the fall of 2021.
Finnie added that not long after the star’s court-ordered guardianship began in April of 2022, communication with her and the rest of the family was restricted.
The next month, court documents were released which detailed the ongoing battle between Williams’ legal and financial guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, and Lifetime’s parent company A+E Networks. They also discussed the documentary about Williams — Where Is Wendy Williams? — and reference the status of Williams’ hotly debated finances.
Since Morrissey’s March 2024 filing, Williams’ N.Y.C. penthouse was sold in May. Then, in July, she celebrated her 60th birthday, but a source told PEOPLE at the time that her family was “rooting and praying for Wendy and want to express their well wishes as she celebrates her 60th birthday.”
“Wendy Williams’s family is unable to speak on her current condition and location due to ongoing litigation and the fact that they have largely been denied contact,” the source added.
