BREAKING: The Trump DOJ Has Just Filed With the Supreme Court to STRIKE DOWN State Laws Banning the Public Carrying of Firearms
In a seismic legal move that could reshape gun policy nationwide, the Trump Department of Justice on Tuesday filed an emergency petition with the U.S. Supreme Court seeking to overturn state laws that prohibit the public carrying of firearms.
The filing argues that such state restrictions violate the Second Amendment and “unconstitutionally infringe on the rights of law-abiding Americans to defend themselves in public.”
Justice Department lawyers claim the patchwork of state-level bans has created “legal uncertainty” and burdens citizens who travel across state lines.
If the Court agrees to hear the case, it would mark one of the most consequential gun-rights battles in decades, potentially setting a nationwide precedent on whether states can limit or ban the public carrying of weapons.
Gun-control advocates immediately condemned the move, calling it an “unprecedented federal attack” on states’ authority to regulate public safety.
Supporters, however, praised the filing as a long-awaited step toward expanding constitutional carry nationwide.
The Supreme Court has not yet indicated when it will decide whether to take up the case.
