Graham Norton reveals the dream celebrity he would love to have on his show – and you’ll never guess who it is
Graham Norton has revealed the one celebrity he’d love to have on his famed television show.
The UK chat show icon, who hosts the long-running Graham Norton Show, was asked by Stellar Magazine this weekend who his dream guest would be – and he gave a surprising answer.
‘We’re always looking for young, up-and-coming people like Aubrey Plaza. She seems great. I’d love to have her on,’ the Irish comedian, 61, replied.
American actress Aubrey, 40, is best known for her role on comedy series Parks and Recreation, and recently raised her profile with a starring turn in The White Lotus.
When it comes to Hollywood megastars, Graham did say he has his sights set on one of the biggest.
‘But in terms of those big Hollywood people, Brad Pitt is about the only one’ Graham added.
Norton also says he’d love to meet Meg Ryan, so that he could ask her about her famously frosty interview with Michael Parkinson in 2003.
‘I’ve never met Meg Ryan, but if I did, I would love to know what the hell went on’ he said.
‘Because there must be another side to that story. We’ve all seen Meg Ryan on other shows being charming and lovely and bright. So yes, something happened to make her like that’.
Norton recently revealed to news.com.au some of his biggest celebrity disasters throughout The Graham Norton Show’s 31 seasons.
One celebrity who ‘wasn’t a great guest’ was American actress Darryl Hannah.
He explained it wasn’t outrageous demands or ‘diva’ behaviour, but rather nerves that made the Kill Bill star difficult to work with.
Darryl’s reputation for nervousness proceeded her, with the Splash actress reportedly fainting during an appearance on The Late Show With David Letterman.
‘So, she did our show, and bless her, she wasn’t a great guest,’ he told the publication.
‘But what I loved was, because she got through it, afterwards she was high as a kite. She really felt like she’d done an amazing thing.
‘And I was thrilled for her that she had gotten through it. It was still a very poor show.’
Graham admitted that a boozy appearance from actor Mickey Rourke was ‘hard work’ for the chat show host.
‘I just happened to be standing there when he got out of the car and he was holding a bottle of Jack Daniels, which is already worrying,’ he said.
‘But then we noticed the bottle of Jack Daniels was half-empty. It soon became very clear where that Jack Daniels had gone. Those nights are quite hard work where you’re just trying to keep it together and get to the finishing line.’
He also brought up a 2012 appearance from pop icon Madonna, who looked less than impressed when presented with two dolls of her likeness made by two diehard fans in the audience.
‘I saw them after the show and said, “Oh, I’m sorry she was a bit rude about the dolls.” But they couldn’t have been happier. Their diva had behaved in exactly the way they wanted her to!’ he said.
The Graham Norton Show has been running for an impressive 31 seasons.
The funnyman’s flamboyant presentation and seemingly effortless interaction with guests has seen Graham nab numerous awards including three British Academy Television Awards for Best Entertainment Performance.
