Barry Keoghan shows off his newly-dyed blond hair in first sighting since he ‘split from Sabrina Carpenter’ – as he blames foster homes for his ‘trust issues’

Barry Keoghan has been seen for the first time since it was reported he’s split from Sabrina Carpenter after a year of dating.

The actor, 32, sported an eye-catching new blond hairstyle as he resumed work on his new film Crime 101 in LA.

Showing his new look, Barry was dressed in a 90s-inspired ski jacket and carried a motorbike helmet as he headed onto the set.

As it was first reported that he and Sabrina had split, Barry also shared in a new interview how he suffers from ‘trust issues’ due to a childhood growing up in foster homes.

The Saltburn star appeared on SiriusXM’s This Life of Mine with James Corden, where he was asked about his upbringing.

Host James asked: ‘For anyone listening who doesn’t quite understand what foster care is, what’s the longest or the shortest that you spend in different families over that…5 or 6 year period?’

Barry then shared, “Two years was one. And you know, as a kid, you don’t know what’s going on.

‘You’re basically attaching to anyone who’ll show you some sort of, you know…these people are taking you because they want to look after you and help your journey, but they become your family….

‘You arrive and like, this is it. And then you get took and you go to another one and that starts to affect you. You know, as you grow up and wherever.’

Speaking about his struggles with ‘trust issues,’ Barry added: ‘You don’t trust the process of anything. You have a problem with attachment and abandonment. All of these things that I’ve been working on for many years with several therapists.

‘You know, all these moments in your life, like being a father and grown up and having your first movie premiere and all of these things. It just comes back and knocks on the door….

‘Never trusted love, never trusted that someone wanted to know me or, let’s say be a friend, for instance, or, you know, I always kind of questioned it. You know, you’re hard wired differently.

‘You have to really be aware and be honest and be brutally honest with yourself and, you know, to work on these things.

And then having a child myself, you know, these things come into play and like, what do I show my child?

‘You know, usually people have something to draw from. You know, they have a blueprint or they have some sort of experience from their father. But I had none.’

Barry split from his ex-girlfriend Alyson Sandro, the mother of his son, in 2023 after three years together.

It comes after Barry was hit by unfounded claims that he cheated on Sabrina, after it was reported that the pair had split after a year of dating.

A source told People that the couple have decided to go their separate ways in a bid to focus on their respective careers.

A blind item on gossip site Deuxmoi has claimed that a breakup between a rising pop star and her ‘foreign actor boyfriend’ occurred because he’d cheated on her with a ‘semi-famous TikTok influencer’.

While the item did not name Barry or Sabrina, fans were quick to claim that the piece was about them.

The item read: ‘It appears that this A-list singer who’s having her breakout year and her foreign actor boyfriend are done for good.

‘On the closing night of her biggest tour to date in LA, he was busy getting very cozy at San Vicente Bungalows with a blonde, semi-famous, LA based influencer (who’s particularly big on TikTok).

‘I snooped around a bit out of curiosity and apparently he and his popstar girlfriend called it quits very suddenly less than a week before her final shows in LA after she found out he had been chatting with said influencer behind her back for months in a not-innocent-at-all way…’

The item also claimed that the influencer ‘had even gone to find [Barry] while he was filming in the UK, eager to keep him company while his girlfriend was touring in the US’.

They added: ‘He had messed up before and she had forgiven him but nothing as serious and infidelity is where she draws the line.’

MailOnline has contacted representatives for Sabrina Carpenter and Barry Keoghan for comment.

Following reports of his split from the Espresso hitmaker, fans of the couple couldn’t contain their feelings, and they vented a mix of grief and relief at the breakup on social media.

Posts on X included: ‘Damn, the fans are going to [go] berserk; Well, happy new beginnings to both Sabrina and Barry if it is true.’

‘Omg I’m heartbroken; Bummer. Oh no. Sad to hear.’

But another fan, who seemed please by the report, posted: ‘Good bc she can do way better.’

One fan theorized baselessly that the couple’s seven-year age difference was what led to the end of their relationship.

‘i told you guysssssss this wasa nevern it AT ALL the age difference duhhhhh [sic],’ they wrote on X.

Another fan made a punny joke referencing Sabrina’s hit song: ‘Man said he want some decaf and tired of expresso.’

Some fans joked that they thought they had a chance with either of the newly single stars.

‘Good to know he’s single now…’ one person wrote of Barry.

Some of Sabrina’s fans reacted to the breakup report through the prism of her music.

‘we getting a heartbeat break album omfg [sic],’ one person enthused.

There were few public signs of trouble in paradise for the all-star couple.

Earlier in November, the Banshees Of Inisherin actor had complimented his love on her work ethic after she earned her first-ever Grammy Award nominations.

Just a few days before that he gushed that he was ‘incredibly blessed’ to be with Sabrina while appearing on Louis Theroux’s podcast, but those comments were a departure for the usually tight-lipped couple, and they don’t appear to have made more substantial comments about their relationship in recent weeks.

Sabrina and Barry were first linked back in early December of 2023.

The couple had met just a few months earlier, in September. The Espresso singer attended a screening of Barry’s polarizing thriller Saltburn earlier in the month, which may have prepared her for their official meeting at the Givenchy runway show at Paris Fashion Week.

Sabrina and Barry’s relationship heated up to the point that he even starred with her in the music video for her single Please Please Please.

The lovebirds played a Bonnie and Clyde–like duo in the video. Sabrina appeared as a woman who was released from jail just as the heartthrob was being jailed.

But she got more than she bargained for after bailing him out, as she got caught up in a bloody showdown with a mob boss and an armed bank robbery that Barry’s character led.

At the time, Sabrina claimed that she chose Barry to star with her in the video because she thought he was one of the most talented actors of his generation, rather than just because he was her boyfriend.

Although the couple made few public statements about their romance, the film star appeared to be a devoted boyfriend in public after attending Sabrina’s performance at the Coachella Music Festival in April of this year.

But there were hints of trouble between Sabrina and Barry when a source claimed to People in August that the couple’s relationship was ‘on and off.’

Barry previously had long-term relationships with Shona Guerin (from 2017 to 2020) and Alyson Kierans (from 2021 to 2023).

He and Kierans welcomed a son named Brando in 2022.

Sabrina previously had a high-profile romance with the Disney Channel actor Joshua Bassett from 2020 to 2021, and she was linked to singer Shawn Mendes early last year.
