Angel Reese gets advice from an NBA icon on how to cut the gap on Caitlin Clark in her second WNBA season

NBA icon Dwyane Wade offered Angel Reese some priceless advice as the WNBA star reflects on her rookie year in the league.

Reese, who was comprehensively beaten to the Rookie of the Year award by rival Caitlin Clark, enjoyed an impressive debut campaign in the WNBA despite failing to make it into the postseason with the Chicago Sky.

The 22-year-old recorded the most rebounds in the league with an average of 13.1 per game, while also racking up the second highest points per game (13.6) for a rookie behind Clark (19.2).

And as she looks to close the gap on the Indiana Fever phenomenon in her second season, Reese asked Wade on the latest episode of her ‘Unapologetically Angel’ podcast what areas of her game he believes she can improve.

‘I saw moments this where you did the next step, it’s just about doing it more,’ the three-time NBA champion told her. ‘You have it. Now it’s about working on it and being consistent with it.

‘Don’t go in the gym and work on something, then don’t trust it.’

Reese replied: ‘That’s the toughest thing, I think people don’t realize that when you go into the game you’re so used to the things that work for you, that are easy for you.

‘That’s why the toughest thing for me is being able to go into a game and just take the shots that I work on.’

Wade then added: ‘For you, it’s becoming more confident in your offensive bag – but you’ve shown flashes of it.

‘When the game slows down for you, that’s when it gets scary.’

Reese enjoyed a memorable battle with Clark for the Rookie of the Year prize before her old college nemesis pulled away at the business end of the season.

Yet despite the Fever star appearing the obvious choice, one voter out of 66 opted for Reese as their Rookie of the Year.

Fans are desperate to know who the mysterious electorate is, which has led to several reporters taking to X to deny being the culprit.

‘Just so we’re clear… it wasn’t me,’ Connecticut reporter Terrika Foster-Brasby wrote. ‘I voted for CC. So don’t blow me up or call me a hater cause IT WASNT TERRIKA.’

WNBA journalist Khristina Williams also confirmed she is not the voter responsible for selecting Reese, saying: ‘I had Caitlin Clark on my ballot for Rookie of the Year.’
