The financial contours of Kelce’s deal reveal a strategic foresight from both the player and the franchise. As Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk highlights, the Chiefs have structured Kelce’s contract with an eye toward flexibility.
“The Chiefs gave Kelce a $4M raise for 2024, no strings attached, pushing his salary to $17M,” Florio explained. The real decision point looms in March 2025, when the Chiefs must decide if they will make Kelce’s $17.5M salary for that year fully guaranteed.
This contract structure allows the Chiefs a brief window to evaluate their long-term plans with Kelce, who will be approaching his 36th birthday by then. The timing of the guarantee, starting only on the third day of the 2025 league year, suggests that the Chiefs are keeping their options open. This setup indicates a thoughtful approach to managing star talent amidst financial and competitive uncertainties.
