BREAKING: Obama-appointed Judge Boasberg, who has stopped many of Trump’s illegal actions, is REFUSING to testify at tomorrow’s Senate hearing on “activist judges”.
In a surprising move that has escalated tension between the federal judiciary and Republican lawmakers, Judge James Boasberg — an Obama-appointed federal judge who critics say has repeatedly blocked several of President Donald Trump’s initiatives — has declined an invitation to testify at a Senate hearing scheduled for tomorrow on so-called “activist judges.”
According to Senate Judiciary Committee staff, Boasberg formally notified the committee late Tuesday that he would not appear, citing long-standing judicial ethics principles that discourage federal judges from participating in hearings framed around partisan disputes or ongoing political controversies.
Committee Republicans had hoped his testimony would highlight what they describe as a pattern of judicial overreach. Democrats, however, blasted the invitation as an overt attempt to intimidate the judiciary and undermine judicial independence.
Legal experts note that federal judges rarely testify in politically charged hearings unless required for administrative or procedural matters, making Boasberg’s refusal consistent with past practice.
The hearing is still expected to proceed with legal scholars and former judges providing testimony, but Boasberg’s absence is likely to become a central flashpoint in tomorrow’s proceedings.
