BREAKING: President Trump and AG Pam Bondi just filed an emergency motion in federal court to unseal the Epstein grand jury transcripts that have been sealed for years. This comes only 2 days after Trump signed the Epstein Files Transparency Act — and now the DOJ is arguing that the new law overrides the old rules that kept these documents hidden.
In a dramatic legal escalation, President Donald Trump and Attorney General Pam Bondi have filed an emergency motion in federal court seeking the immediate unsealing of long-hidden grand jury transcripts related to the Jeffrey Epstein investigation.
The move comes just two days after Trump signed the Epstein Files Transparency Act, a bipartisan law ordering the release of all unclassified federal records tied to Epstein’s network, associates, and alleged criminal operations.
According to filings made late Friday, Trump and Bondi argue that the new transparency law creates a legal mandate that supersedes the confidentiality rules that have kept the grand jury documents sealed for years.
However, the Department of Justice is pushing back—insisting that the statute fundamentally alters the government’s obligations and therefore requires the court to revisit, and possibly overturn, the decades-old restrictions governing grand jury secrecy.
Legal experts say the clash could trigger one of the most consequential transparency battles in recent history, with the potential to expose previously undisclosed testimony, prosecutors’ evidence, and names that were shielded from public view.
The federal judge overseeing the case has not yet scheduled a hearing, but given the emergency nature of the motion, a ruling could come swiftly.
