Halle Berry called out the ‘shady s***’ in Hollywood as she responded to director, Matthew Vaughn, revealing he quit X-Men 3 over studio deception towards her in a resurfaced clip.
The Catwoman actress, 58 – who recently went topless to show off her toned figure in a racy snap – notably portrayed the character of Storm in the X-Men franchise.
Vaughn opened up about why he quit the third film at New York Comic Con last year in October, and claimed that Berry had been given a fake script in order for her to sign on to the movie.
She reposted the past interview to her social media accounts on Saturday, and shared her thoughts on the deception.
In the caption on Instagram, Halle penned to her followers, ‘Ya just never know the shady s*** going on behind ya back! Thank you Matthew Vaughn for bringing the dark to light.’
Berry notably took on the role of Storm (also known as Ororo Munroe) in X-Men – which premiered back in 2000.
She continued to play the character – who has the power to manipulate the weather and also create lightning storms – in its sequels.
The third installment in the franchise – which Vaughn stepped down from – was titled X-Men: The Last Stand and was released in 2006.
At New York Comic Con last October, Matthew explained how executives with Fox – which sold its entertainment properties to Disney years later – produced a phony script they felt would appeal to the Academy Award-wining actress.
‘I thought, if you’re going to do that to an Oscar-winning actress who plays Storm, I quit; I thought, I’m mincemeat,’ Vaughn said during a panel, per The Hollywood Reporter.
Vaughn said that in an effort to cement Berry to the project, Fox produced an extended script centered around Berry’s character Storm.
It featured a huge sequence at the start of the film, and elements to the storyline they had no intent on actually including in the finished product.
‘I went to an executive’s office and I saw an X3 script. It was a lot fatter. I asked, “What is this draft?” They were like, “Don’t worry about it.”‘
Vaughn said he read through a sequence concocted to persuade The Monster’s Ball star to agree to reprise her role in the film franchise.
‘I grabbed it, and opened the first page, and it said, “Africa. Kids dying from no water, and Storm creates a thunderstorm to save all these children” – I thought it was a pretty cool idea.’
He continued, ‘I said, “What is this?” They said, “This is the Halle Berry script, because she hasn’t signed on yet. This is what she wants it to be. And once she signs on, we’ll throw it in the bin.”‘
Berry would eventually sign up for the movie, joining an ensemble cast that included Patrick Stewart, Hugh Jackman, Famke Janssen, Ian McKellen, Kelsey Grammer and Elliot Page.
Vaughn initially replaced X2 director Bryan Singer in the franchise, and would ultimately be replaced by Brett Ratner for the 2006 movie.
The film was a financial success, raking in around $460 million in the global box office.
Berry would go on to return to the film franchise with 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past; and went on to work with Vaughn in Kingsman: The Golden Circle.
A few months earlier in August, Berry revealed that she nearly had a chance to step back into the shoes of Storm in Shawn Levy’s Deadpool & Wolverine – which was released in July.
During an interview with Comicbook, the Monster’s Ball actress claimed that Blake Lively wanted her to reprise the role.
However, her husband Ryan Reynolds – who plays Deadpool in the film – never reached out and asked Halle to do so.
‘Blake [Lively] asked me one time, I ran into her at a Marc Jacobs fashion show, and she said, “Would you ever be in my husband’s movie as Storm?” I said, “Yeah, if he asked me,” but he never asked me.’
Halle has been keeping busy, and attended the world premiere of her latest film – a suspenseful horror flick titled, Never Let Go – in NYC last month.
She took on a leading role in the movie – which hit theaters a few weeks earlier on September 20.
At the event, she wowed in a halter-styled gown that clung to her frame and contained striped hues of gold, tan, orange and silver.
The fabric of the dress sparkled under the bright lights and was held up with chain-like details that wrapped around her neck.
And over the past weekend, she shared behind-the-scenes footage from Never Let Go – and showed off fake armpit hair as she transformed into her character.
In the caption, Berry wrote, ‘Momma in the making. One of the most complex characters I’ve had the pleasure of embodying. #NeverLetGo is in theaters everywhere!’
The beauty also showcased her toned figure in a racy Instagram photo as she posed topless in the same post.
