President Trump sent a message of congratulations to the Kansas City Chiefs after they beat the Buffalo Bills to reach the Super Bowl.

Patrick Mahomes and his team now stand on the brink of history, with a win in New Orleans enough to make the Chiefs the first time in the Super Bowl era to win three straight titles.

And it sounds like they’ll have the support of the White House against the Philadelphia Eagles on February 9.

Writing on truth social, Trump said: ‘Congratulations to the Kansas City Chiefs. What a GREAT Team, Coach, Quarterback, and virtually everything else, including those fantastic FANS, that voted for me (MAGA!) in record numbers.

‘Likewise, congratulations to the Buffalo Bills on a tremendous season. They will do a lot of winning long into the future!!!’

The Chiefs beat the Bills 32-29 at Arrowhead on Sunday night in a gripping AFC Championship showdown.

Trump was publicly backed by Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker and long snapper James Winchester before the election.

Brittany Mahomes – the wife of Chiefs quarterback Patrick – also backed Trump and the Republican party before the election in November, a stance that put her at odds with friend Taylor Swift, who is dating Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.

Swift came out and publicly endorsed Kamala Harris, taking a swipe at Trump’s running mate J.D. Vance in the process.

Swift signed her post as ‘childless cat lady’ in reference to Vance describing several Democrats – including Harris – as ‘a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives’.

But with both Swift and now Trump cheering the Chiefs’ arrival in next month’s Super Bowl, maybe football is a power for uniting the political divisions.

Trump’s comments about the Bills are also interesting given he recently opened up on his failed attempt to buy the franchise.

He offered $1billion cash for the Bills a decade ago, following the death of founder and Hall of Fame owner Ralph Wilson.

Trump was one of three known finalists in the battle to take charge of Buffalo. A group led by rock star Jon Bon Jovi also showed interest in acquiring the team. In the end, however, the owners of the NHL’s Buffalo Sabres, Terry and Kim Pegula, won the bidding with $1.4bn offer.

When asked how close he came to closing the deal, Trump said: ‘Not close. The owner who got it is a very good man. I think he’s done a great job. Well, he made a great pick – he picked a great quarterback in Josh (Allen).

‘I bid $1bn dollars and I put up a letter of credit. I thought I might get it because it was in Buffalo which was having some troubles… and (Pegula) bid $1.4bn – so it’s $400m more.

‘I don’t think it was a very serious run but I gave them a guarantee of a $1bn so that’s always serious, right?’
