Jason Kelce Breaks His Silence on Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s Engagement and Reveals What Travis called him and asked before the proposal
Jason Kelce is a very excited brother-in-law to be!
After Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce broke the Internet with their engagement news, Jason Kelce gave the pair a special shoutout on the Wednesday, Aug. 26 episode of the Kelce brothers’ podcast, New Heights.
”Gigantic piece of ‘New News’ that just hit the waves,” Jason shared during the episode, referencing a popular segment from the podcast. “We did record this podcast on Monday, which was Travis’ one day off. So, he is not here to address this himself, but we felt it necessary as a team here at New Heights to get together and send Travis and Taylor a giant congratulations for being engaged! The proposal heard ‘round the world.”
The episode went on to have Jason and Travis debrief Swift’s record-breaking Aug. 13 appearance on the podcast. New Heights fans will likely need to tune in next week for Travis’ personal take on the big announcement.
The “Love Story” singer and the Kansas City Chiefs tight end, both 35, announced their engagement in a joint post on Instagram alongside several photos from their floral-filled garden proposal on Tuesday, Aug. 26.
”Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married 🧨,” Swift wrote in the caption of her post, which was set to her song “So High School.”
Kelce proposed with a ring by Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine Jewelry. The dazzling stone is an brilliant-cut old mine diamond, which Swift shows off in a series of photos announcing the big news. Kelce co-designed the ring with Lubeck.
In one of the images, Kelce is seen down on one knee, while in another photo, the pair are embracing. In the final image, they’re seated on a bench beneath a pink-and-white floral trellis.
In an interview with News 5’s John Kosich, Jason and Travis’ dad, Ed Kelce, revealed that the proposal took place “maybe two weeks, not quite two weeks ago” at Kelce’s home.
”He was going to put it off till this week. I think she was getting maybe a little antsy, but he was going to put her off till this week, to, you know, make some grand thing, to make it a big special event,” Ed said. “And I told him repeatedly, you know, you could do it on the side of the road, do it any place that makes it a special event … when you get down on one knee and ask her to marry you.”
The engagement news comes just two weeks after Swift made her New Heights podcast debut alongside both Kelce brothers to reveal the album art, track list and release date for her upcoming twelfth album The Life of a Showgirl.
She also shared an Instagram post formally announcing the LP — which is produced by Swift, Max Martin and Shellback.
”And, baby, that’s show business for you. New album The Life of a Showgirl. Out October 3,” she captioned the Aug. 13 post.
The track list for the upcoming album includes songs “Elizabeth Taylor,” “Ruin the Friendship,” “Honey,” “Actually Romantic,” “CANCELLED!”, “Eldest Daughter”, “Father Figure”, “Opalite”, “The Fate of Ophelia”, and the title track, which features Sabrina Carpenter.
Guinness World Records also later revealed that Swift broke a new world record, as her New Heights appearance pulled in “the most concurrent views for a podcast on YouTube” that day with a total of 1.3 million.
