JUST IN: Former President Joe Biden’s Gracious Five-Word Response to Donald Trump, Who Says He Is Canceling All Documents Signed by Biden Using an Autopen — and Warns Biden Could Face “Perjury Charges” If He Claims He Approved Them
Former President Joe Biden offered a calm and measured reply on Thursday after President Donald Trump announced he would invalidate all executive documents signed during the Biden administration using an autopen.
Trump further suggested that Biden could face “perjury charges” if he insisted he personally approved them.
Speaking to reporters after the remarks gained national attention, Biden delivered a brief, five-word response that quickly went viral: “That’s not how laws work.”
The Biden team dismissed Trump’s threat as legally baseless, emphasizing that autopen authorization has been a bipartisan practice used by multiple presidents dating back decades.
Legal experts also note that executive documents remain valid as long as they were authorized by the sitting president, regardless of signature method.
The Trump administration, however, insists it is conducting a broader review of Biden-era policies, calling the autopen issue “a matter of presidential legitimacy.”
Biden, maintaining his typically restrained posture, declined to escalate the exchange, saying only that the American public “has bigger things to worry about than pens.”
