JUST IN: Trump Revealed 3 Reasons why he’ll issue a “Full and Complete Pardon” to former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernández, convicted of drug trafficking last year in the US and sentenced to 45 years in prison.

President Donald Trump has announced that he intends to issue a “full and complete pardon” to former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernández, who was convicted of drug trafficking in the United States last year and is currently serving a 45-year federal prison sentence.

In a brief but striking statement, Trump outlined three key reasons behind his decision — a move that has already sparked heated political and diplomatic debate.

First, Trump claimed that Hernández had been a “strong and reliable partner” during his administration, particularly on border security and regional counter-migration efforts. Trump argued that Hernández “helped keep America safe at a critical time,” insisting that his cooperation should be acknowledged.

Second, Trump said he believes the case against Hernández was “over-prosecuted” and politically motivated, alleging that U.S. prosecutors pursued the former president too aggressively to “score headlines,” though he provided no evidence to support the claim.

Finally, Trump framed the pardon as part of what he described as a broader effort to “rebuild strategic alliances” in Central America. He suggested that restoring Hernández’s freedom would send a message of “goodwill and renewed partnership” to U.S. allies in the region.

The announcement has drawn sharp criticism from legal experts, anti-corruption advocates, and lawmakers from both parties, many of whom argue that Hernández’s conviction — which included extensive witness testimony and documented ties to major drug cartels — was one of the most significant anti-trafficking prosecutions in recent years.

Officials at the Department of Justice have not commented on Trump’s statement, and it remains unclear whether the former president would have the authority to issue such a pardon unless he returns to office.

Hernández continues to serve his sentence in a federal facility, and his legal team has not publicly responded to Trump’s remarks.
