Travis Kelce’s Kansas City Chiefs teammate Mike Danna thought he was about to be quizzed on the NFL season starting when he stepped up for a press conference on Tuesday.
But seconds before the cameras started rolling, the news sending shockwaves around the world reached him – that Kelce and Taylor Swift were engaged.
The news stunned the 27-year-old, who had no idea as he walked up to the podium to take questions. But it meant that Danna inadvertantly became the spokesperson for his friend Kelce and his huge personal news.
’I don’t know nothing!’ Danna joked, laughing out loud. ‘Man, it’s incredible. I was caught off-guard. But that’s a blessing, any time you find that joy, happiness, love, I think that is a beautiful thing.
’I just got told 30 seconds ago! So I don’t know if they (the Chiefs team) know. But I’m so happy for them, that’s a wonderful time in life, a wonderful journey. A wonderful thing to see.’
Danna said he had met Swift ‘once or twice’ and that the couple are ‘a great thing to see’, adding: ‘It’s just an awesome time in life’.
The Chiefs man took the relentless questions about Kelce well, telling reporters: ‘Being the first one to talk to you guys about it, that’s shocking to me.’
Danna added that he had tried Swift’s famous pop tarts and gave them an outstanding review.

’Man, listen. Those things will get you in trouble,’ he said. ‘Those things are like dessert and those things are like fire. if you have one, you will two, maybe three.’
Swift stunned the world with the announcement on Tuesday on her Instagram with the caption: ‘Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.’
The news was quickly celebrated publicly by the Chiefs, who wrote on social media: ‘Today is a fairytale.
’Congrats to Travis and Taylor—we’re excited to have you as a permanent member of the Chiefs Kingdom family!’
The news comes just days before the Chiefs start the new season with Kelce, Danna and the Chiefs flying to Brazil next week for their first game on Friday, September 5 against Los Angeles Chargers.
And it was, of course, a Chiefs game nearly two years ago when Kelce and Swift went public with their romance.
After speculation was growing that the pair were a couple, Swift confirmed the rumors by taking a seat in Kelce’s VIP suite alongside his mother Donna for a September 2023 game against Chicago Bears.
Just a few months earlier, Kelce had admitted to his older brother Jason on their New Heights podcast that he had tried and failed to give Swift his mobile number after watching her Eras Tour show in Kansas City that July.
It was through Kelce’s frank admission that he managed to get in contact with Swift between her shows in the US, starting the sequence of events that has ended with them engaged.
