The Reason Why Britney Spears still have to pay sons’ expenses — even after child support ends is Revealed… See more
Britney Spears will be done paying her sons’ child support payments soon — but her bank account may not be done financing the teens’ lifestyles just yet, Page Six has exclusively learned.
“I would say that under the terms of judgment, there will still be some responsibilities to contribute on certain expenses,” Kevin Federline’s attorney, Mark Vincent Kaplan, tells us.
“The regular and recurring child support payments would end, [but] there could be other expenses she volunteered to pay in certain categories even after they’re of majority [age].”
Spears’ attorney did not immediately return Page Six’s request for comment.
Kaplan did not elaborate on the terms of the judgment Federline and Spears agreed upon, but noted college education as an example of the kind of expense the pop star could be responsible for.
Spears and Federline, who divorced in 2007, share two sons: Sean Preston Federline, 19, and Jayden James Federline, 18.
The former DJ had been receiving $40,000 a month from his famous ex up until their eldest child turned 18 in September 2023. They then settled on $20,000 a month until Jayden became a legal adult.
However, since the younger teen celebrated his 18th birthday on Sept. 12, under California law, child support is to end when the he graduates high school “but in no event later than their 19th birthday,” Kaplan previously said.
We’re told Jayden graduates “very soon” from his high school in Hawaii, where he has been residing with dad, Preston and his half-siblings since August 2023.
As for how Kevin, 46, feels about Spears, 42, no longer paying child support, Kaplan says his client is “appreciative of the fact that Britney met her child support payments throughout the minority of the children.”
Jayden’s post-grad plans are unclear, but we’re told the teen is currently spending time in Los Angeles.
While on the West Coast, Jayden reunited with Spears after years of estrangement, with sources telling us exclusively Monday that the mother-son duo “have been spending a lot of time together.”
“Britney is thrilled to have her baby back,” one insider added. “Everything is moving in the right direction.”
However, Kaplan is hesitant to call the reunion a reconciliation, claiming Jayden has only seen his mother in person about two times recently and it may take longer before all past issues are resolved.
Jayden and Preston revealed in September 2022 that they had distanced themselves from Spears because of “emotional trauma” they endured and they wanted her to get to a better place “mentally.”
In August 2023, Kaplan told us the “…Baby One More Time” singer had gotten in touch with her kids once again. They then spoke to her on Mother’s Day this past June.
The family law attorney, who has represented Kevin from the start of his custody battle against Spears, now tells Page Six that his client “was aware” Jayden had plans to visit his mom in LA.
“He very close with all of his kids,” Kaplan says, adding, “If the boys feel comfortable improving their relationship with their mom, Kevin’s all for that.”
He concludes, “Both these boys are adults. Kevin is supportive of them making their own decisions and what they feel is best for them.”
