An Australian woman has revealed that she spurned Travis Kelce’s romantic advances just months before he got together with Taylor Swift.
The pop icon and the NFL star, both 35, have been dating for two years. On Tuesday, they officially revealed their marriage news with a romantic engagement photoshoot showing Travis proposing in a rose garden.
In the wake of the big news, Australian entrepreneur Michelle Battersby admitted to a near-dalliance with Taylor’s fiancé.
Speaking to News Corp, Michelle, who is behind women-centric creator app Sunroom and motherhood app Peanut, revealed that she was taken aback when she bumped into Travis at a Dom Dollar concert in the US.
She said that she was approached by Travis at the show, and found his advances ‘weird.’
’I was like: “Who is this guy? Why does he have an entourage? This guy’s a weirdo,'” she said.
’He came up to me and was hitting on me. There’s only so long you can chat to a random dude who looks like he might be someone. Not knowing who he was, I was like: “Why does this white guy think he’s so swaggy?” I just kind of palmed him off.’
Michelle, who was attending the concert with her partner Bill Meakes, said she only realised who Travis was months later when Travis and Taylor went public with their relationship.
Michelle’s revelation comes after Travis and Taylor broke the internet with their happy news.
Sharing a series of sweet photos documenting the occasion, the Shake It Off hitmaker captioned the snaps: ‘Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.’
The Grammy winner also revealed her mammoth diamond engagement ring in the post. The stunning band is an Old Mine Brilliant Cut and appears to be from Kindred Lubeck at Artifex Fine Jewellery, and it is worth an estimated $675,000 to $1 million (USD).
The couple went public with their relationship in September 2023 when the singer appeared alongside Kelce’s mother, Donna, at a Kansas City Chiefs game.
Since that day, their romance has captivated the world, with Swift supporting Kelce’s run to two Super Bowls while the NFL star has travelled alongside her around the globe on her wildly successful Eras Tour.
The sports star’s close friend Patrick Mahomes was quick to congratulate the couple, sharing Swift’s post on Instagram with three heart emojis.
In the wake of the announcement, Taylor, Travis, and her hit Love Story, began trending.
Swift’s long-time pals, supermodel Gigi Hadid, Karlie Kloss, and Cara Delevingne were quick to like the post, showing support from her girl squad.
Fans were quick to spot clues that the singer knew what was about to come, as she and Travis donned matching Ralph Lauren outfits in their engagement shoot.
Swift wore a $400 striped silk-blend dress by Ralph Lauren for her proposal, which featured a ruched top and halter neckline.
Swift tied her simple look together with one of her favourite jewellery pieces: a gold Santos Demoiselle Watch by Cartier.
In her most candid chat ever, Swift admitted she thought Kelce was ‘crazy’ for asking her out so publicly.
The sportsman famously spoke on his podcast about attending one of Taylor’s concerts in July 2023 and being disappointed when they couldn’t meet, revealing he’d even brought a friendship bracelet to give to her.
Appearing on Travis’ podcast earlier this month, Taylor compared Travis to a John Hughes movie character, joking he was outside her window with a boombox yelling: ‘I wanna date you! Do you wanna go on a date with me? I made you a friendship bracelet. Do you wanna date me?’
Taylor said: ‘I was like, if this guy isn’t crazy — which is a big if — this is sort of what I’ve been writing songs about wanting to happen to me since I was a teenager.’
Travis’ brother Jason went on to ask the Fearless hitmaker: ‘How did you know he wasn’t crazy?’ to which she replied: ‘He is crazy, Jason. He’s the good kind of crazy.’
Even President Donald Trump had warm wishes for the couple, telling reporters during a cabinet meeting at the White House: ‘Well, I wish them a lot of luck. I think he’s a great player and a great guy and I think she’s a terrific person, so I wish them a lot of luck.’
