Hilarious moment professor at University of Tennessee cancels class over Taylor Swift engagement

A University of Tennessee professor was dubbed ‘favorite teacher ever’ after he canceled class as news of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s engagement broke.

A video of Associate Professor Matthew Pittman releasing his class over the huge pop culture news went viral, as he told the students that they needed time to ‘process this information.’

Pittman began by reminding the class they were due for a BioChem midterm that day, ‘but Taylor and Travis just got engaged.’

‘Due to this information, I can’t focus, you all can’t focus,’ he told his students.

‘Class is canceled, get outta here. We need time to process this information.’

The video garnered tons of attention online, as the news of the engagement dominated social media and news outlets.

‘And just like that, he became the favorite professor,’ one comment said.

‘He deserves a wedding invite,’ another laughed.

One user wrote: ‘As he should… FAVORITE TEACHER EVER!’

However, Pittman, who studies social influence, cognition, and social media, wrote in a post on Instagram that the video was a skit to connect the moment to his classroom.

The School of Advertising and Public Relations professor said in the video that the engagement was a very exciting time, not just from an advertising and pop culture perspective but also as a self proclaimed fan.

‘I don’t know how anybody could be expected to focus on schoolwork or anything work or career related right now,’ he said.

‘This is pretty big news,’ Pittman continued, adding that he believed their engagement announcement on social media would be crowned the ‘number one shared post in the history of social media.’

‘It’s gonna be everywhere for a long time. This is gonna be crazy.’

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce announced their engagement on Tuesday after a secret proposal two weeks ago.

The pop icon and the NFL star, both 35, who have been dating for two years, officially revealed their marriage news with a romantic engagement photoshoot showing Kelce proposing in a rose garden.

Daily Mail has confirmed Kelce actually got down on one knee earlier this month.

Swift captioned the post: ‘Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.’

The Grammy winner also revealed her mammoth diamond engagement ring in the post – the stunning band is an Old Mine Brilliant Cut and appears to be from Kindred Lubeck at Artifex Fine Jewelry. It is worth an estimated $675,000 to $1 million.

The star shared the post on her Instagram, set to the ballad So High School, which is about her enduring love for Kelce.

The couple went public with their relationship in September 2023 when the singer appeared alongside Kelce’s mother, Donna, at a Kansas City Chiefs game.

Since that day their romance has captivated the world, with Swift supporting Kelce’s run to two Super Bowls while the NFL star has traveled alongside her around the globe on her wildly successful Eras Tour.
